Each week we’ll be profiling one of our Super Bowl 50 Host Committee volunteers, learning a bit more about how and why they got involved with the Host Committee Volunteer Program.
This week our volunteer spotlight is on Marcia Diefendorff from Los Gatos.
SB50: What is your favorite Super Bowl tradition?
MD: To watch the game as a family. It’s usually a small get together, but we are always able to connect with loved ones. We have to cheer for a different team each year because our team – Cleveland Browns – are never in there. Since I have lived in three different states though, its pretty easy to pick teams to root for or against each year.
SB0: To you, what makes the Super Bowl special?
MD: I see the Super Bowl as a coming together of football fans, whether you are on one side or the other, everyone is cheering for something and forgetting about the troubles of the world. My favorite Super Bowl was in Texas in 1978. We drove up to Dallas that year and got to see the Cowboys beat the Broncos and the whole state of Texas come together around the event!
SB50: You have volunteered with us on 50 Tour. What has been your favorite moment so far?
MD: I have had the job of talking to people in line and telling them what’s coming up when they walk into 50 Tour’s mobile exhibiting the Bay Area’s Vince Lombardi Trophies. The people standing with me are always so much fun. I get to hear San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders fans playfully expressing their rivalries. I enjoy meeting new people, and hearing about their sports affinities.
SB50: Where is your favorite place in the Bay Area?
MD: The tide pools in either Pacifica or Santa Cruz. I love exploring coastal nature!
