In celebration of Super Bowl 50, which will be played on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium, the first of 10 Bay Area 50’s will be installed outside San Francisco’s City Hall on Saturday, December 19 starting at 5AM PT, kicking off the official 50-day countdown to The Big Game.
In addition to the first Bay Area 50 installation, the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee is marking the final 50-day countdown with the lighting of a gold 50 on the San Francisco Ferry Building, and displaying the 50-day countdown on the videoboard at Levi’s Stadium, both at 5PM PT.
Each weighing 1,600 lbs., the Bay Area 50’s stand six-feet tall and eight-feet wide. From Super Bowl rings and tickets to footballs and confetti, all 10 Bay Area 50’s incorporate different design elements representing Super Bowl history. The Bay Area 50’s are solar powered and have lights that will illuminate the front at night. The installation of the first 50 will begin at 5AM and is expected to be completed by 9AM PT.
All 10 Bay Area 50’s are tentatively scheduled to be installed at various iconic locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area by mid-January. Fans are encouraged to take photos with the larger-than-life 50’s and tag themselves using hashtag #SB50.
